
Church Stretton is a wonderful place for walkers, with many footpaths to choose from on both sides of the valley. Here is a selection of 8 short circular walks for you to choose from. Printed copies & OS maps also available from the Visitor Information Centre
1 – Cwmdale: A gentle walk to Carding Mill Valley, on to Batch Valley and return via All Stretton. 3 miles, Time: 1.5 hours
2 – Helmeth Wood: A gentle walk around ancient woodland with nice views overlooking Church Stretton. Look out for the bluebells in the Spring. 3.5 miles, Time: 2 hours
3 – Stretton Vale: Walk to All Stretton on the east side of the valley and return to Church Stretton on the west side of the valley. 4 miles, Time: 2 hours
4 – Cwms Road/Caradoc: The 5 mile route takes you across the A49 and around Hope Bowdler valley providing fantastic views of Caer Caradoc and Hope Bowdler ridge. There is the option to extend the walk by climbing up Caer Caradoc and walking along the ridge. 2.5 or 3.5 hours.
5 Townbrook Hollow: Climbs to a high point on the Long Mynd, which provides excellent views over the Stretton Valley followed by gentle descent via Townbrook Hollow. 3 miles, Time:2 hours
6 – Cwms Circuit: A lengthy but easy walk that stays in the valley and provides delightful views of Caer Caradoc and Hope Bowdler Hill. 6 miles, Time: 3 hours
7 – Battlestones: It is well worth the climb for fabulous views, walking along the ridge from Battlestones to Gaerstone. 5 miles, Time: 2.5 hours
8 –Mott’s Road/Batch Valley: A delightful walk up Carding Mill Valley and up onto the Long Mynd, with spectacular views including from those from Jonathan’s Rock. 7 miles, Time: 3.5 hours
